2 Week Tour of Thailand’s Beach Islands

Thailand's beach islands are to the south of the country and are located in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. The islands in the Andaman sea are famous for their massive limestone out crops while the Gulf's islands were the first to be discovered. The 2 week island tour begins on Koh Samui which conveniently has an international airport that is serviced by many regular flights from Bangkok.

Koh Samui - 3 Days

Koh Samui was the first of Thailand's islands to be discovered by tourism and the perfect location to ease into Thailand's way of life. On Koh Samui there is a perfect blend of good beaches while still catering for the comforts of home. Koh Samui has a very large package tour industry but due to the size of the island there are always quieter beaches to be found. Best of all you could be on a beach within an hour of your flight landing in Thailand. Highlights of Koh Samui include:

• Spending your first night in Thailand in a beach hut which opens onto golden sand and a warm tropical sea.
• Sampling the excellent and varied Thai cuisine.
• Drink and partying in the major tourist resort town of Chaweng
• Relaxing the more laid back resort town of Hat Lamai

Koh Phangan - 3 Days

Koh Phangan is the home of the famous (if sometime infamous) Full Moon Party, possible the largest beach party in the world, attracting over 20,000 revelers each month who dance under the full moon. Outside of the party days Koh Phangan has the laid back and relaxed atmosphere Koh Samui 20 years ago but there are signs of the mass tourist market moving in as the infrastructure of the island improves. For travelers Koh Phangan offers fantastic beaches and great snorkeling tours of the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park with evenings spent socializing in the many beach bars. Sights and activities on Koh Phangan include:

• Relaxing on the most secluded beach of the island, Haad Khuat (Bottle Beach)
• Partying all night long at the Full Moon Party (or the half moon and black moon parties)
• Watching the sunset over the Gulf of Thailand and the Ang Thong National Park.
• Sampling traditional Thai food at Thong Sala Food Market.

Ko Lanta - 3 Days

Koh Lanta is the least developed of the 4 islands visited during the 2 week tour, it is here that you are most likely to have an entire beach to yourself and then be the only patrons in the bar afterwards. Koh Lanta is actual two islands with the beaches located along the western side of Ko Lanta Yai. The main town and small port of Ban Saladan is on the northern edge but by traveling south along the only main road the number of tourists rapidly diminishes. The roads on Koh Lanta are permanently empty and is the perfect location to hire a scooter to fully discover the entire island. Sights and activities of Koh lanta include:

• Finding a completely deserted paradise beach.
• Khao Mai Kaew Caves – Large cave network which can be explored by hiring a local guide.
• Mu Ko Lanta National Park – National park on the southern tip of the island.

Koh Phi-Phi - 4 Days

Kho Phi-Phi is paradise and the tour has saved the best destination for the end of the trip. The main tourist town is situated between two massive limestone outcrops which provide fantastic rock climbing opportunities. The beaches and the surround islands can only be described as some of the best in the world and there are still budget hotel options. Snorkeling day trips are some of the best in Thailand and visit the "perfect beach" as in Leonardo Di Caprio's movie "The Beach".
